Sunset Shores - Chalet Cabin #3

Overall, we had a good stay at Simple Life Rental Cabins and enjoyed the experience. The cabin itself was nice and had a cozy atmosphere. However, I do feel like we paid a little more than what the stay was worth considering the warm water wasn’t working properly during our visit. The owner did help us right away! But also it wasn’t quite as private as the listing made it seem. Aside from those issues, we still had a good time and appreciated the location and overall setup.

I liked the closeness to the shore line and being able to setup a nice fire by the water under the stars :). Some of the utensils in the place were dirty and didn't look sanitized. And one if the windows wouldn't shut and the mechanism that closed it seemed broken.

The location on the lake is beautiful! We loved that the boat landing was right there and the proximity to town. The bed and pillows were comfortable. We appreciated that the kitchen was stocked with dishes, pans, etc. As expected, this cabin was rustic and a little dated. We didn't mind the age of the rental, but we were disappointed by the cleanliness for what we paid. The main surfaces were clean, but there was dust, hair, and cobwebs on the baseboards and heaters, the bathroom smelled, one corner of the bed was leveled by propping it on a box of leftover flooring. There was a grill at the cabin, but the bottom was rusted, making it unusable. We rented one of six cabins set in a circle on the lake. Unbeknownst to us, the other five cabins were rented by a large group of families traveling together. While they were friendly, we felt like we were at a party we weren't invited to and didn't feel comfortable using the firepit or dock because they were using those spaces and had already established their routines. I understand this was a unique circumstance, but you may want to consider this situation for future group rentals.

Overall a good stay, however the cabin could have been a little cleaner. There was pet fur on stuff that could have been cleaned off and the bathroom had a few small mold spots. It was pretty humid when we went, so the cabin did smell a little musty, but other than that it was nice. perfect size for me and my daughter and close enough to everything we wanted to do. It was also nice to have access to kangaroo lake. I’d say money wise it wasn’t really worth it, but that’s just because I would have preferred it a little cleaner.

Overall the stay was great! Clean cabin in a relaxing location. Little disappointed that this specific cabin was not directly on the water. Other cabins had a direct water view but this cabin did not. The bed was also extremely uncomfortable. We felt like we were sinking into the middle.

Our October 2024 trip to Door County was made easy with Simple Life Rentals. We initially received the wrong code but received the accurate code within a few minutes of contacting Simple Life via Airbnb. Only complaint would be that the WiFi didn’t work - we didn’t need it, but if we had planned to study or work remotely we would not have been able to the entire weekend. Overall, great stay!

Lovely cottage on a beautiful, peaceful lake in Door County. Watch a sunset over Kangaroo Lake next to a lakefront fire. Accommodating and responsive hosts. Well maintained property and located close to key sites and attractions. We will likely be back!

Certainly nothing to rave about. We had issues from the get-go since the code they provided didn’t work forcing us to spend another 20 min waiting around after a 5+ hour drive. The bathroom could use some serious scrubbing — there were mold spots all over and around the shower stall. Would have bothered me regardless but was especially bothersome as that was the only option to bathe our 2yo daughter. I also would have expected some better overall cleaning. There were cobwebs in corners and all the windowsills. More mold found in the trash cans. The land is nice and we enjoyed the fire pit, so we may check out one of the other cabins next time, but I would not recommend #3 and will not be staying there again. It shouldn’t be that hard to keep a rental property clean.

I had to call to get the code for the lock because the one I had didn’t work. That took a half hour to take care of. Then the WIFI wasn’t working so no WIFI and no internet for the television. Paid a lot for mediocre place.
