Roo Retreat

Our friend group of 6 had a great stay at this property. Communication with the property manager was excellent, the property was spotless and exactly as pictured in the listing. We had a small issue with the heat not working upon arrival but the property manager responded quickly had the issue fixed within an hour. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The outdoor firepit area was the perfect spot to gather and relax with our friends. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was fully equipped and there were plenty of towels and blankets. Great location by the lake and only a 5 minute drive to Bailey’s Harbor. I would definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay here. It was nice and exactly as described. It was quiet and restful. The place was pretty clean too. I wish it was either on the lake or closer to downtown Bailey’s Harbor, but that wasn’t promised! No fault of the host.
Everything was nice except the water in the property. It smelled so strongly of sulfur and iron/metal that it was unbearable to shower. To be expected in a more remote location, but the smell persisted on our bodies and in the bathroom for hours. Taking a shower smelt like eggs and blood. We got bottled water for drinking and for teeth brushing.

This was our third stay at Roo Retreat for a relaxing winter long weekend. We love the proximity to Coyote Roadhouse and the short distance to the public lake access for ice skating or just walks on the ice. The house has plenty of space for us and our two teenagers to have our own space. We love making meals in the adorable kitchen, playing games in the dining room, and watching movies in the living room with a fire in the fireplace. We will be back.

We had a great time staying here. The cabin is cozy and inviting, the kitchen is well stocked with pots/pans/utensils, and the accommodations are great. Four friends just taking it easy for a few days. We loved the home and location. One night when we weren’t sure where we wanted to go for dinner, we decided to try Coyote Roadhouse. The food was great and we enjoyed talking to some of the locals. We enjoyed a couple of the games provided by the host. A quick few quick days in Door County with friends…looked for something centrally located but quiet. Roo Retreat is the place! Clean, quiet, easy access to both shores, wineries, Peninsula Players, restaurants, everything we wanted to do. Perfect size for two couples, big table for games and visiting. Wish we could have made more use of the screen porch and fire ring, we were just busy with other stuff. Next time for sure!

Nice and quiet place with and easy walk to kangaroo beach which is a super shallow closed off old boat launch that kids have lot of room to play in the water. Private lot that is quiet and has a nice firepit!

Very peaceful and nice house, great for a family or a small group. Fire pit and sunroom were perfect when the weather was nice and had lots of natural light throughout. Only thing I’ll say to be aware of is the water heater tank is definitely small so expect to take short showers, but that’s pretty typical of up north.

The house was fantastic and had everything we needed. It was a really easy walk over to swim in kangaroo lake. The house was spotlessly clean. We were happy to find toys and books for my niece who is 2 1/2. The master shower is a special treat, you don’t often see that many showerheads in one shower!! Appreciated, the stocked kitchen for cooking, and the big table for family meals. The bedrooms were all comfortable, clean and had ceiling fans. Awesome Nest system central AC to keep us cool and comfortable. The yard and fire pit are really nice. Great space to spend time outside with a little one. Would highly recommend and would stay again.

We loved our stay here! Was a perfect size for our family of four adults and two teens. One of the best rentals we have had. The place was very clean. The layout of the house was great with the master bedroom separate from the other two rooms with the open concept area separating them. One thing to note (which did not bother us at all since we went in June and did not swim, but wanted to set expectations) is the beach that is walkable is more like when the water dead ends at the cul de sac. It looked shallow and clean but just not what you think when you think "beach". I would not hesitant to rent here again!

The cabin is a lovely property and matches the description and pictures perfectly. We unfortunately had rainy weather during our visit, but found the cabin a cozy place to tuck in despite the inclement weather. The decor is tastefully done, and the main room is comfortable for several people. We found the location to be easily accessible to either side of the penninsula. I will say that the linens are mismatched and over-washed. Our real problem was getting a code to get in. I emailed several times asking for it, continuing through our trip there. I got replies, but no code. I had to call late at night and neither code given over the phone worked, so we had to search for hidden keys on a dark rainy night, only finding finally the second key. I have never had this experience before. The person on the phone was very nice however.

Property was very nice, spacious, and clean, tucked away in the woods off of Kangaroo Lake in Bailey's Harbor. This place gives off a strong "Wisconsin North Woods" vibe. Very cozy. Overall, we had very pleasant experience. Things we loved: -The spacious sun room was a great place to eat breakfast in the morning while enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. -The master bathroom is great. His/her sinks, good amount of counter space, and probably the nicest shower I have ever showered in. (Be mindful of not using all of the faucets at once for too long though. The hot water runs out pretty quick.) -Location is very good. Short walk to Kangaroo Lake public "beach" (more on that later), and just a 5-15 minute drive away from most of the main towns in Door County (i.e. Downtown Bailey's Harbor, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Ephraim, Sister Bay, etc.). I don't really have any complaints about our stay, but here are a couple of things I think new visitors should know: - There were two smart TV's with access to cable and streaming services, but no DVD player. Not that anyone should spend their time in a vacation rental in Door County watching DVDs, but just something to keep in mind in case you were planning on it. -The central air was great, but the thermostat is very "new tech" and took my wife and I a few minutes to figure out how to operate it (You have to touch/stroke the side of the thermostat to change the settings. It looks like a digital touch screen, but it's not.) Once we figured out how to change the settings, it was pretty straight forward, though. -My wife did not like the bed, but I thought it was fine and I slept like a baby. So, take that what it's worth. -The public "beach" at the end of Kangaroo Beach Road is not really a beach. I would describe it more as a "public entrance to Kangaroo Lake via concrete slab". Kangaroo Lake is wonderful for swimming. The bottom of the lake is soft and sandy and the Lake itself is very shallow (I walked about 100 yards off shore and it was still only thigh/waist deep), so it is warm and very kid friendly (for swimming). However, there is no real "beach" to speak of. If you are looking for a beach where the kids can play in the sand while you lay out in the sun and get a tan, this isn't it. All of the sand is at the bottom of the lake. As I said previously, the entrance to the lake is essentially a concrete slab that angles into the lake. Looks like it's designed more for launching kayaks.

We stayed at the house for a girls trip. There was plenty of space and all the amenities we needed. The house if very close to the main drive in Baileys Harbor and a short drive to the other side of the peninsula. We also stopped by the Coyote Roadhouse and had a blast. Would absolutely stay at the house again. We stayed during the winter and did not use the fire pit or AC, but I can confirm the heat worked well.

The property was just as described online and in the pictures. Highlights of the home are the master bath, front-room with fireplace, 3-seasons room and the amazing outdoor fire pit. Perfect getaway for the two of us. While we didn't need the extra sleeping space, the rest of the house was big enough to stretch out and relax. The updates to the home were well done and place was clean as can be. The inside was great, but with great weather, we didn't spend much time inside. Between the fire pit, the yard and other Door County things to do, we kept plenty busy. The causeway through Kangaroo lake was a pretty close walk to do some fishing and the ramp to the lake is even closer. We didn't use the ramp area but could see kids could really dig that. Bailey's Harbor is the closest town and a super cute little area. You are also not much more than 20-30 mins from any other towns/parks in the area from here. We are already planning our next trip up.

The place is a great location for exploring door county. The property is enclosed in a wooded area with ample parking. We found the house nicely laid out with everything we needed for a great stay. Our favorite room was the screened in back porch surrounded by a wooded area. It was so peaceful in the morning. Dave and Wendy were responsive to any questions making the stay easy.

Great place for a weekend getaway! It was very clean and about 10 - 20 minutes away from restaurants / town. Comfortably fit seven girls, only thing is that there’s not many mirrors which makes getting ready a little difficult. Other than that we loved it!

The Roo Retreat was perfect for our girl’s weekend! The property is private and the house is extraordinary. The fire pit and outdoor spaces were very nice to have on such a beautiful weekend. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed for the weekend. We can’t wait to go back!

This place is a cozy Door County retreat, with all of the amenities you’d want. Wood burning fireplace, spa-like master bath with heated floors and an open floor plan perfect for families. Owners were responsive to all inquiries and provided good recommendations in the area. Great, central location. Highly recommend!

This house is *very* nice. It's classy, well-appointed, and extremely clean. It's bright and airy, the furniture is comfortable, and there's a lovely sun room, in addition to a fire pit.
One small caveat in case you're planning on a working vacation: the internet is via satellite and pretty slow. It was reliable, but if you're on Zoom all day, it might be a challenge.
But that's a nitpick, and true of a lot of places in Door County. We plan to stay here again.
