Weather

Door County, Wisconsin offers a true four-season experience, each bringing its own unique charm and activities. Nestled between Green Bay and Lake Michigan, the peninsula's weather is influenced by its surrounding waters, creating distinct seasonal patterns that make it a year-round destination.

Spring (March–May): Spring in Door County is a refreshing season of renewal. Temperatures gradually warm from the mid-30s in March to the 60s by May. Snow melts away, and wildflowers begin to bloom across the peninsula’s parks and meadows. This is a quieter time to visit, perfect for peaceful hikes, birdwatching, and witnessing cherry and apple orchards burst into color. Occasional rain showers help green up the landscape, so packing layers and a light rain jacket is wise.

Summer (June–August): Summers in Door County are warm and breezy, with highs typically ranging from the mid-70s to low 80s. Humidity is mild compared to other Midwestern regions, and the cool lake breezes make outdoor activities especially pleasant. This is peak tourist season, ideal for kayaking, boating, biking, and enjoying the beaches. Long daylight hours and sunny skies dominate, making summer the most popular time for festivals and waterfront dining.

Fall (September–November): Fall in Door County is a spectacular show of color. Crisp air returns in September with temperatures in the 60s, cooling into the 40s by November. The peninsula becomes a top destination for leaf-peepers as sugar maples, oaks, and birches light up in hues of red, orange, and gold. Apple and pumpkin picking, wine tasting, and scenic drives make autumn a favorite for many. Fall is also less crowded than summer, offering a peaceful retreat.

Winter (December–February): Winter transforms Door County into a serene snowy escape. Highs hover in the 20s and 30s, and snow is common, especially inland. Frozen coastlines and snow-covered forests create a picturesque setting for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. Many vacation rentals offer fireplaces and hot tubs, perfect for cozy winter nights. While quieter, winter holds a special magic for those who enjoy solitude and winter recreation.

No matter the season, Door County’s weather sets the perfect backdrop for memorable getaways, scenic beauty, and outdoor adventure.
